The amount of performance degradation is directly proportional to amount of geometry/objects in the scene. More objects/geometry there is, more performance degradation. It has nothing to do with amount of geometry in single object but amount of geometry in entire scene, so even if you select a low poly object and start switching from edit to object performance will still degrade. Here is a simple way to replicate the issue:

I had to tick "Face Sets" on exports to make it work so this report is invalid.

i can confirm this issue gtx 1070. any scene will crash even default one

it seems setting texture and vbo timeout in system settings to 0 fixes the freezing issue

should this not be at least high priority and be fixed for release of 2.8? hair dynamics is pretty important feature id say, currently i still cant get it to work its been a while. i mean, without hair dynamics we are severely limited to what we do by hand and rigging..

i am trying to switch between modes by pressing f1,f2,f3,f4 instead of toggling it with TAB key, so when i press f1 it goes to object mode. when i press f2 it goes edit mode etc. ive tried adding the command to the keymap under 3d view global but it says its reserved for internal use. is there any way to do this kind of thing ?
if you cant add IK constraint to an object why is the option to do it there in object constraint tab ? cant you just remove the option ?

this is the same thing, except, before bake i enabled disk cache. now it does not crash with switching to particle edit, but particles are not visible in particle edit.
here i made a simple uv sphere, i made hair particle, i click bake, i try switch to perticle edit and it crashes blender. you can open this blend and try switch to particle edit, it will crash it

From my research this issue has been present for more then a year now. Its a pretty big issue, id say. So far devss kept complete radio silence on this issue, or i havent been able to find anywhere where it was anything said about it. Could devs say anything about it like, is it getting fixed at all and when? Why has it been neglected for so long, is this that hard to fix? Considering it has been around for such a long time.

Hell on not sure if this its the same issue but looks similar - baking doesnt work gtx 1070
