Hi @YAFU (YAFU), I just booted into Windows 10, downloaded blender 2.8 official packages and repeated the test there.

I still see a difference in performance between dyntopo enabled vs disabled on Windows. It is, however, much smaller than what I see on Linux: Linux sees performance drop to maybe 2-3 FPS, whereas Windows sees a drop to around 15 FPS.

However, I think this is beside the point: if the grab brush doesn't create any topology, why does toggling dyntopo on and off change the performance at all, on any operating system? Perhaps Linux is slower, but if dyntopo doesn't do anything for the grab brush, it should be the same amount of slower, regardless of dyntopo being enabled, right?

If Pablo made the promise to fix any issues his sculpting patches bring up (as opposed to leaving it to the core team), then I don't see why it shouldn't be committed, especially as there's nothing in dev. discussion mentioning a feature freeze.

My opinion anyway.

For me the idea of putting ready UVs for default primitive is not well thought. This is not a bug, to solve it, in the property window go to Object Data tab and in UV Maps panel delete that default UV.

This is not a bug, it is feature "fast navigation" you can turn off. Go to sculpt mode in the sculpt menu remove the check in Fast Navigation.

Interesting. Can you try resizing window manually to a smaller size and see if that allows you to zoom out more?

Could be something OS related, was only testing on Linux. Can fire on Window box tomorrow and see how that works.

I don't think current builds from buildot do include my fix from today. Without it it will not work indeed.
Do you mind testing with the next build? (will be available later tonight. So maybe wait for until tomorrow, give it a test, and let us know how it goes).

It works fine for me, however it seems like the blender built in player lacks scaling, so if I playback a 1080p video on a 1080p monitor, I have to make sure that the player window is fullscreen or the video will be cropped.

This is a problem we didn't have in Blender 2.79

@artem ivanov (ixd) It seems like i didn't understand your suggestion well. This bug report is about not rendering a mesh in the collection but rendering the same mesh anyway as particle instance. To put into contest of Blender 2.7 ( group some objects and put them in no-active layer, and add the group as particle instance. In Blender 2.7 the object will be rendered anyway). Away if you have a solution please just update the blend file above and share it, i would love to learn how to it.

I m leaning on letting things the way they are right now. @Sebastian Koenig (sebastian_k) is pointing good points, and deleting an object from heavy project is really different from deleting a paragraph from text editor like @William Reynish (billreynish) wants to argue. The model can be from a project that you have been worked on for many months on a busy scene. Accidentally delete it and everything goes silent, you keep on moving and few months later you realize that you don't have that model anymore.

Erick, Apparently the change was reverted in experimental-build and it is no longer there. You apply the last patch from D3617 on 2b62531 Base.

Errors and other messages in the status bar are really easy to miss, only when you actively look there will you see it. With the input shortcuts changing constantly anyway, will you really notice some extra appearing in your peripheral vision? It's fine for shortcuts or unimportant messages, which you don't want to be distracted by. But if for example there was an error saving the file or the reload trusted message appears, it should not be missed.

Web browsers for example display error messages or notifications to suggest some action at the top of the web page, not the bottom. Many applications have done away with status bars as a way of communicating important information to the user, and for good reason I think. The progress bars are ok at the bottom, maybe info message too, but error and warning messages do not work well there in my opinion.

No, it's not assuming LMB selection. Paint modes already use LMB for painting, both when using LMB select or RMB select. When painting or sculpting, you can't select objects anyway, so RMB is mostly unused.

@Julien Kaspar (JulienKaspar) It is brothering everybody sculpting in Blender 2.8 and it exposes the downside of the new system, it makes me wondering again why are we hiding some other brushes, when we have a lot space where we can have them all exposed? It would easier to just click on the brush and select it, in stead of click and drag. Please @Campbell Barton (campbellbarton) the new tool system need more love in sculpt mode to make it more user friendly.

Grease Pencil will most likely not work like it did in 2.7. The reason it worked as it did, was because we didn't have the concept of active tools, which we now do have. Grease Pencil should be ported over to using active tools, so that you don't have to hold down a key to use it, which is tiresome and unergonomic anyway.

@William Reynish (billreynish) The D-key is reserved for the Grease Pencil in all modes, That is the reason it was changed to X-key in Blender 2.7 series.

Yes just I checked and it is working now, meaning that is not crashing anymore but still you have to undo twice before the undo takes place. May be should close this one and open another one with the title " After lasso mask, Blender needs two undo before the undo takes place." ?

@Julien Kaspar (JulienKaspar) do you why brushes are nested? For me nested == to hide.
I have hard time to understand why. Because in edit mode we have 18 icons visible and in sculpt mode 12 icons visible. We have enough space to put more brushes and we can scale the icons and fit even more brushes. If the nested is based on the name, i should say that is a bad decision because in Blender brushes behave differently. For example, while clay brush works great with multires., it performs poorly with Dyntopo. And clay strip does the opposite, even though they have kind of the same type of brushes name"clay". The clay strip brush is Blender's magic brush you can do almost anything with it in Dyntopo, nesting it kills the discover-ability what ever this word means LOL.
@Campbell Barton (campbellbarton) Here is my suggestions:

  • Scale down all the brushes in sculpt mode and make them all visible, or
  • Let the users decide about what brush they want to nest. ( this is what has happened with old screen layout, almost no one was using them because it was predefine for the user, not necessarily user taste )

But would be nice if there is a way to merge some headers and top bars to free vertical space, you know... Maybe optionally hiding the status bar...
Maybe making the workspace tabs only appear by hovering the mouse over.

Some people dont have displays the size of a wall...

Current CAD snap is all about desperation.

I don't what you are trying to achieve but the same thing you have achieved in other programs you can achieve that in Blender as well, just have to enter edit mode and set the snap accordingly like this ->

Okay, it seems to be not clear yet, so I will explain what you need to do.
To perform CAD snap you have to follow conditions:
0) You have to move object with one particular point to another particular point.

  1. In object mode only
  2. With no origin manipulations (because of possible instances)
  3. With absolute minimum of manipulations. Click-click.

    To realize the importance of such ability you have to work in massive architectural industry for years and do such operations thousands times per day every day. And yes, we are using modeling tools for about decade, we all know about mesh snap, we know all your possible answers, and we already wrote tools that made such thing even faster than on your video, you can find it in my prevous post.

I have bad feelings about to start to relearn key shortcut, not because i hate changes but because it will slow down artists/users. Blender is a tool, you learn to use it and make something awesome with it., but if every now and then you have relearn the way to use it, it is a slow down process for your creativity. Improvement should be made to relieve artists/users burden. Yes eventually many will learn the new way, and others not.

Actually the usercount gets incremented in pose mode by doing anything action there ( move, scale, selection, rotate ), and note that COW is now default. If you play a bit with the file, just select some bones, rotate, scale, .... and do some undo in the middle, Blender will crash and sometimes not able to open the file anymore(crash on start).

I believe for testing you may be want to post a link in BA thread that you have started, there you will have more traffic ( which is not always good, you don't have to answer everybody ;) ) In BA there is more artists/users who will want to play with it and give some feedbacks.

  • What build hash are you using?
  • Yep may be it a windows specific problem do you have a windows machine to try it?
  • Yes i tried with factory settings and i got the same behavior.
  • It isn't Nvidia drivers related because i have the latest and i tried with different machine.

I tried this on win 7 gtx 550ti master hash d5c1c0b, every things seems okay, I run the script till my Mem was 50.90M i don't remember how many times but more than needed :)

Another point to take into account on removing face dots feature, when implementing the new feature, please take into consideration that, when you are in face select mode after a loop cut, Blender switches to edge loop select without any warning and not seeing those face dots is the only information that we get from Blender that we are in a different mode. So some kind of clear visual info to make the difference between this 2 modes.

Face dot is important but i can live without, but you have to give us something, may be an option in the user preferences to turn it on and off or the ability to highlight the face that cursor will select on a click? Sometimes it is difficult to know what face my cursor is close to, specially when you are in transparent mode ( limit selection visibility) or wireframe mode.
