I tried the Fixed version.
Now, both ends of a stroke are affected by the noise modifier.

I really don't like that you have to Check THREE checkboxes for EEVEE to finally activate refraction for materials.
One in the material tab, and two in the render tab.
It took a bit too long to figure out.

Aha! I found the problem!
In the performance settings, Render tab, "Cache BVH" was checked. Apparently the cached BVH was not compatible with the changes and blender got all confused. Better do something that would make other users avoid this confusion.
Here's some new info!
Turning off renderability on modifiers get objects back in the render!
