Back... with hiccups. Got conflict in the clang-format dance, started updating with the basics, then everything trashed in bigger conflcit. So restarting once I figure the new state of the code.

https://www.anandtech.com/show/13124/the-amd-threadripper-2990wx-and-2950x-review/2 says 2 dies have direct access, 2 do not. But all of them have caches (L3 being 8MB per CCX, 2 CCX per die) so while they will get a performance hit with the extra hop, they should not be 100% useless. https://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/amd-ryzen-threadripper-2990wx-review,4.html gives less than double time for the double hop case, noticeable but caches could hide part of the issue.

The function has changed with D4112 and the patch does not work anymore. There is a similar crash, but it must be handled by the new code.
sl->spacetype can and does crash. CTX_wm_space_data(C) can return NULL, and when it does, things break.
It can be triggered from area frames (to get menu "Area Options: Split Area, Join Area"), click them like mad with right button, and it will crash at some point. Or maybe only when the menu "Add to Quick Favourites | Assign Shourtcut | Online Manual" opens.

Ended downloading source and giving it a try... culprit is BKE_blender_user_menu_find(&U.user_menus, sl->spacetype, context) with sl NULL, which was returned by CTX_wm_space_data.

"Many do it, so let's do it too" just reinforces "it", ignoring if "it" is good or bad.

No, it is not an implication, it could be a manual on the same computer.
