Can confirm I have this issue as well.
Tested Blender versions all the way back to 2.80 and the issue persists.

Just thought I'd add for those of you waiting for a fix.
Rendering with cycles doesn't seem to have this issue.
It's only eevee that has it. At least for me with said test files.
So at the cost of render times you'll at least still be able to get a result that works.

This seems to be fixed for me with rBe4932d1167f4 commit.
I compiled from the latest source and I am still getting the exact same crashes.
I'm inclined to agree since I just discovered the crashing doesn't occur if I have Cycles selected.
So probably something with Eevee draw code is off.
Just tried adding a material to a normal 3D object and got a crash from that as well.
Seems something is up with the material properties code.
