Textures are not attached to the .blend use File > External Data > Pack in to .blend, please.
No need to zip the file, you can use compress while your save the .blend.

Hi, I can verify black models after Shift+Z but I cant get Blender to crash.
If I hit Rendered View in the UI textures are properly shown.

Hi, it is not possible to use CPU and GPU in 2.79b.
This feature is only in the daily builds of Blender and you can download them here > https://builder.blender.org/download/
Keep in mind saved files with these builds are may not backward compatible to 2.79b.

We may can get rid of naming devices as OpenCL and/or Cuda devices for user.
If you check Cuda it is clear these are Cuda devices, same for OpenCL.
Brecht mention in IRC:
we'll need to handle case where computer contains both OpenCL and CUDA devices, warn about it or actually support it at some point
If network devices are working in Cycles we need UI for 20 or more devices, just to keep it in mind UI wise.

Hi, Ram and Vram are not added, if you use GPU you are limited to 6 GB - system usage, 3-400 MB.
The timeout error is another thing, search for "nvidia timeout"

This sounds like a GPU/driver problem, check different settings in User Preferences > Windows Draw Methode.

Hi, cant get errors too on my GTX 670 2 GB.
The file need 760 MB VRAM.
I had to reduce samples to 200, no time for a 60 minutes render but should not make a difference.

Hi, I can verify missing textures until frame 44, every second frame shows pink.
From frame 44 and up it is working for me, viewport and render animation.
But I got a lot of missing files errors opening the file.
I don´t think it is a bug but really hard to find out with such a complicate file. :/

Gnudebugger should save your OS from freeze and you get may info what happen.
Type bt should give even more information.
Such errors are hard to catch when it only happen on your system as it seams.

Hi, just for info, alongside Samples and Dimension I change Step Size to 0.5 in Volume Sampling (Please check 0.5 - 2).
I remove objects/meshes not involved in render time/color error to shrink size of .blend to 1/3 of original file.

Check with GPUz for VRAM usage of your GTX 580 idle and during render.

If you switch volume samples to 1 in 2.77 RC1 it is working too.

Hi, this is not a but, Blender try to recalculate smoke during scaling/moving thats because you get artifacts in 3Dview.
After finish scaling/moving all work as expected again.
