I've had something similar happen to me, actually with two AMD GPUs, on a laptop; one the onboard of the APU and another external one. One card rendered normal squares and the other semi-transparent one, until the crash happened and all the rest were rendered transparent, is that how it happens?

...crashes keep happening, although I get the recently famous white screen freeze now instead of blender just going out. Unfortunately all these files contain parts I can not disclose for now, the only thing I can do is replace part of the file,...hoping to still get the crashes...

OK, after trying this and that I finally narrowed it down to a texture issue: For cycles I added a texture limit in the simplify panel and now it runs fine. In eevee, in scene/shadows panel I dialed the cascade size down to 512 px from 1024.

I think I got this...had this hapening each time I turned off the discrete (AMD) GPU of a laptop to use only the apu: switch back to dual graphics and no problems.
Looks like triple buffering in User Preferencs > System > Window Draw Method is to blame and it should also be the one selected in ' Automatic'. All other options do not cause the freezing. Another thing I noticed is that it makes no difference if you enable triple buffering in your gpu driver options, it just doesnt like it on some models :P
Hope that helps...
