I reproduced the crash 3 consecutive times today, using the 2nd file I sent, with today's download of blender 2.80 beta, on Friday, February 8, 2019. If there's something else that I can provide to you, or test for you, I'll be glad to do it.
I cannot reproduce it on the first .blend I sent, using the latest beta I have (from the latest available blender beta as of 15:06 Eastern time yesterday, Feb 07.). When I sent it to you, it crashed for me twice, but isn't doing it now. I just tested it again moments before clicking to send this message.

Yes, I was using the downloadable beta of Feb 06, 2018.
I forgot to attach the .blend. Here it is:

All this talk about ergonomics is moot for left-handed users like me. The default layouts in the apps discussed here, like blender's, are all right-handed creations for right-handed people.

Sorry, cancel this report. I just discovered it's a flaw in my keyboard shortcuts, and fixed it. Everywhere this Shift O shortcut appears as a Proportional Edit toggle, there's a "Wrap" checkbox. It was unchecked.

Of course this should be fixed. No need to repeat well put arguments above. They are all valid. Blender should not delete your work without warning when you engage a save feature.

This breaks an existing, expected behavior. User should have an option somehow to choose the orbit behavior.

Sorry, I can't seem to reproduce it unless I load one of my custom keyboard setups.
