Blender 2.8 bumped up system requirements. Cycles requires at least CUDA compute 3.0, while gtx 440 only supports 2.1.
Check out those links for more info.

Actually, the file you included is a different case than the one you show in the picture. In the picture included the shadowcatcher covers up an HDR texture, which I cannot replicate (I'm on windows).
In the file you include though, the shadow catcher covers up other objects in the scene.
Could you submit a file in which a HDR texture is being covered by a shadowcatcher?

I believe @Clément Foucault (fclem) fixed it last time?
Huh, it seems to be similar to T64958.
I can reproduce it with your file, and also with a default scene with a subsurface shader added.
The problem also goes away in your file once you remove the subsurface scattering node.

Seems to be fixed, I assume by rB596492e639f0, 'cause visually the issue was pretty similar.

I assume this is the same issue? T65004

Update: Bug is still present, but I managed to replicate it from the startup file. It turns out that the bug happens when an object is rotated, and the rotation is not applied:

Update: It seems to be fixed for Clearcoat and Transmission, but still broken for subsurface.

Ok, I can reproduce it from the startup file.
You need:
- World with Volumetric Shader
- Particle System
- Instance Object with Alpha Clip

Thanks a lot! The same issue happens with a curve editor:

What Brecht means is that the file you downloaded doesn't have to be installed. Once you unzip the .zip file, the program should be ready to use.

AFAIK, Blender 2.8 dropped the support for OpenCL on macOS because of outdated drivers.

@Sergey Sharybin (sergey) Ok, will keep that in mind.
@William Reynish (billreynish) November 11 is the example text in the bug submission form.

Would T61111 be caused by the same issue?

I would like to note that this is not a support site, but a bug tracker. If you require some help with the software I would suggest asking on https://blenderartists.org/ or similar forums.

I'm actually strongly against "Lathe" .
First of all, the word it self isn't as understandable as it may seem. Someone using english as second language might actually not learn this word for years, as it is only used in context of woodworking or machining.
Second of all, I think words should be used in a 3D modelling software context. In this case the tool is creating a Surface of Revolution- a mathematical term. Therefore most CAD software (Fusion, AutoCAD, Solidworks) uses the name "Revolve" for those tools.
Even if "Revolve" might not be a simple enough term for the tool, it still sets a precedent to "Spin", as a middle ground for CAD users and artist .

@Konstantin (miller) The devs are trying to create more screen space by removing the current toolshelf and replacing it with a toolbar. I'm sure though they will appreciate your thorough feedback.
@Ludvik Koutny (rawalanche) About 8% of males are affected by colour blindness. That is not insignificant. Also, IMO, the "bisect" and "knife" icons are unnecessarily similar. There is a clear difference in the way they work, and it just isn't represented in the design. Maybe design similar to the "comb" icon could be used, with the tool symbol?
Edit: I should have been more clear, IMO the bisect and knife icons are too similar in general, not only in colour blindness context. Also, I agree that the icons shapes are distinct enough to work without colour.
