Thanks Bastien. I was planning to make another report about shapekeys in Blender. There is a huge memory leak with one of my files (builds to 13gb ram usage). Basicaly what happens is when I delete a single shapekey on a mesh object (30+ shapes), each deletion increases memory usage by 900mbs. So after 13 steps my system runs out of memory. This doesn't happen when the shape keys are deleted by "Delete All Shapes" operation in the sub menu.I can replicate this issue with the same file but its commercial and I can't share it. However I can't replicate it in a new file.

I forgot that vertex mode and edge mode are not supported. My bad. I'm marking this as invalid but maybe a todo is necessary ? since vertex and edge modes are used pretty often.

I downloaded the 15.x beta drivers and blender stopped crashing , the clinfo.exe also works. So If the report was valid then thats the conclusion -

When using blender if I use latest drivers blender freezes my computer. At least it use to, I searched around and found a compatible driver which tolerates and recovers TDR's (Time out Detection and Recovery). And if blender fails at least my system recovers. This is a blender specific situation, I have no problems with other software (Photoshop 3D & 2D Opengl, Zbrush, Unity, OpenGL games they work fine). I guess due to OpenGL 1.1 viewport draw. So unless the viewport supports later versions I don't want to change my current driver and mess my TDR recoverable blender.

So naturally you thought your loss of work is due to a design fault rather than your own fault. When I explained you how to solve your problem with NLA editor. You assumed your way usage is correct and design is still at fault and trying to bypass problem the with an UI implementation.

Personally I stumbled on this issue by chance. When you think about it maximize window is a step between normal window and full screen , so maybe they should be switchable but different shortcuts make this suggest different modes.It would be nice if they used the same shortcut to switch from maximized to fullscreen (Ctrl + Up x 1 = maximize, Ctrl + Up x 2 fullscreen). That's my opinion on the subject.

I do remember you saying the design is bad in BA forums , and also here "This is absolutely unacceptable design" , "This is really bad design here".

I do not wish to turn this to an argument however would like to point that , change is not based on endless pages of blenderartist threads, or generally speaking, the disrespectful rants from users (There are some people like that in the forums). The changes are decided and talked during the making of short movies like Big buck bunny , Sintel, Tears of Steel and Gooseberry.

@Paweł Łyczkowski (plyczkowski) I explained that I'm not against and option in preferences either. However like I said setting this from preferences is better in my opinion.

Since when is conflicting identifiers are Blender's fault... This is really pushing it and its on addon developers side of things; if you duplicate a file with the same identifier (string) you will get a conflict. Try to do this in operating system windows and your file will automatically get renamed with a new identifier ex: if "File.txt" exists in a folder duplicating it will make the duplicate "File-Copy.txt" , if duplicated again it will be "File-Copy(2).txt".

yes; I also checked if it output is correctly these both give the same (almost empty) output : blender.exe -d > errors.txt || blender.exe -d > test.txt

After learning how data blocks work in Blender I didn't have any problems managing things (Scene,Mesh,Brush,Material,Particle,Action,etc...); and the system bypasses this problem with the NLA editor. Applying a temp track automatically sets a new user (track) to the action. And when a new key is formed on any kind of transformation a new "temp" track and a new action is created. So you don't really need to set user with the action editor manually.

Ok. Sorry to revive this again but I think I found the problem and the solution. This is completely unrelated to blender but on some games which use Directx 11 , there is a feature called tessellation (which I'm sure all of you know). My old Nvidia 580 use to hate this and always freezed my computer. So I had to force games to use DX 9 instead to bypass this problem.

After trying ASD setup , i think it is not a bad setup. I managed to get use it in couple of minutes. Keys being together helps a lot here. It is definitely better than a AutoDsk "QWER" setup. However I am not fond of "1-2-3-4" mesh element select. This is the 3dsMax default setup for the same mesh elements and it works if "Select-Translate-Rotate-Scale" are "QWER". I think with "ASD" they are kind of "not near enough" for fast switching.

I can re create this, I confirm . But the weird artifact like reflections are caused by layer weight node ; if you set the layer weight to 0.1 artifacts disappear by % 90. Also if you add a solidify modifier the artifact disappear completely. Open non-manifold mesh with glossy material with a layer weight node connect as factor creates this problem.

the problem also occurs with grease pencil, working with grease pencil strokes for 1-2 minutes activates the freezing.

I found the problem. I went over my process step by step. I created a new file created a cylinder; extruded it; marked edges as seams and sharp;set viewport to textured view ; UV unwrapped the cylinder ; enabled autosmooth ;created a 2:1 texture ; added 2 materials with same shaders and settings. duplicated the point light 3 times and placed them around the object. Up to this point everything was fine.

i thought it could be a glsl issue (Shouln't have bought ATI :(() but like i said I appended the mesh data (not object data) and it also brought in the texture and in the newly appended file there is no freezing. also there is the same amount of objects as in the new append file (lights cameras materials objects) and yet this file is bigger by 29 kb.

Thanks for the solution Psy-fi. I looked at other context enum examples but couldn't make it work. It works now. also a strange thing it doesnt accept shift as modifier key, it gives an error. All other modifiers work ( ctrl & alt).Thanks so much. This will speed up things a lot . Cheers.

I can confirm this bug. If you switch each sculpt from sculpt mode to object mode then the file saves everything properly. It fails when both objects are in sculpt mode and file is saved.

ok, I understand. like I said I have already found the work around for it. Just wanted to report it in case it was something else, a small lag 5-10 sec was evident with nvidia cards, I expected ati would have the same lag time not 2 min.
