Progress depends on the number of scenes to be read, and totally ignores progress based on objects in the scene. So if you've got single scene, you'll indeed have progress of 0 changing with progress of 1.

I found it can be avoided by using:

mouse_position = bge.logic.mouse.position

if mouse_position != bge.logic.mouse.position:
    bge.logic.mouse.position = (0.5, 0.5)

However I don't know why this is so.

@Inês Almeida (brita_), @Jorge Bernal (lordloki), I noticed something about the world scaling of the objects. It is computed by only multiplying the local scale of parent and child objects without taking account of the rotation. So if we have an object without children, the world scale is the local scale even if the object is rotated which seems doubtful as world should be for world space…

The Property sensor expects a raw value, not a property for comparison. In your case you can change your sensor by an "Always" sensor, and replace the "And" controller by an "Expression" controller: prop > max

This doesn't happen on Linux. And it would be really time consuming to work in a non isolated file. Can you can build a debug version of Blender and paste the backtrace of the crash when running from MSVC?

I had a similar problem, it seemed to have something to do with the mesh names. In my case I had multiple tree types, each mesh simply named "tree". Renaming did the trick for me.
