hi, I've been looking at this and have spoken with the author. He's unable to look at for around a month. I've made the decision to disable both the keymap and disable the open in new instance as there appears no way to get back from the instance of Blender. There's no ui showing up in my tests. The addon is still working via the ui. Addons functions causing hard crashes are not permitted, hopefully in the future the Author will find time to restore the broken functionality.
Closing as resolved.

Did you actually test the difference between current method and my addon. Mine is so much faster and will benefit users. Current method is tons of clicking, just like many new and added options etc in bl 2.80 currently. Seems to be a new thing, lets make things easier by let the user click more

confirm, and interesting fact: If you use edit linked library button from side panel (N) it works without crashing (command and arguments are the same)

I just bumped into this thread looking at some updates done on addons. Last year i made an addon which allows for much easier custom MetaRig save. This option is already in the addon, but it only saves a py file and thus not handy for reuse. Therefor i made the addon which easily saves your custom MetaRig so you can load when Blender is reloaded, it will show in the add menu. The addon can also save rig settings.
Perhaps something like this could be implemented, i think its a missing feature.

I think this is useful but a more robust and general solution has to be found to make rigify handle custom widget/metarigs/colorschemes. A giant step forward was done implementing the import of custom rigs from rigify preferences.
I think is nice to hace this addon out there while we figure out what can be done to make this options available in rigify itself.

More robust, in what method? The current method is sort of hidden and to tedious. The only thing my addon does is save your adjust Meta Rig using the operator which is already in Rigify, but sort if hidden, than its saves it to a preset folder. Because i prefer more customized saving method, it looks perhaps to complicated. You can use Blender standard method for saving presets, but than means one big messy folder.

A workaround for now can be to use "always sampled animation". But this has another bug already known about not assigned vertices to bones (this is allowed in blender, but not in glTF). You can workaround it by creating a root bone, and assigned all non assigned vertices to this bone. See https://github.com/KhronosGroup/glTF-Blender-IO/issues/308

so if you want to drag your foot during the up position of the foot is much easier to do that from the ankle because if you do from toes you will need to add rotation and also translation, complicating the animation curves

About pivoting on the toes, I once did an experiment with adding a 'toe roll' option, which would basically switch between the foot roll control bending at the toe joint like now (keeping the toes on the ground while the foot bends up), and on the tip of the toes (the whole foot rigidly rotates, keeping the tip of the toes on the ground.

Hi everybody,
I am Andrea Giro rom Italy, I am a professional animator and blender user since the very beginning of this open software.
I am approaching animation in blender this very last month and I wanted to try to have an easy rigging tool to do my personal project so I approached Rigify as it seems very nice and easy to me.
If I can I would like to give my contribute as a tester if it can help and on this I would spend my first word about the foot pivot :)

  • definitely it shoulden't be at the base of the toe but on the ankle. In 12 years of carrear as animator I never saw it like the rigify default is now.

And about this can I change the pivot to bring it back where it should be?

Yes it similar to built in, but it has much better options. I can control proportional edit with single 'O' button with out menu diving and interface clicking.
Please do not remove. Just a little fix and we all be happy. (:

Thanks for the report and fix, I have removed the proportional pies from the viewport pie menus in nightly builds shortly after 2.80 release. I found it was too close to the pies already built in to Blender. I also decided that it's much better served as a panel pop up rather than a pie. As you've demonstrated above, there's issues with toggles and elements from the header menu the user may really need are not available. I may look at a custom menu for this one day in the future. Thanks again. Closing as resolved as the addon no longer exists.

hi @Osamu Takasugi (SAMtak) that would be great, I've committed your patch, I left in the panels closed by default as it's better for the ui space.
I also noted the changes to all the class names. This is not optimal atm. Convention was better in the original.
I would suggest using MOCAP_PT_ for the panels and MOCAP_OT_ for the operators and remove the operator extension at the end. This fits in better with our naming conventions we are trying to encourage.
If you make the changes you can upload a fixed files in zip and I'll check here locally.

Aaand a step back... sorry for the noise here.
Just boils down to more or less what @Jeroen Bakker (jbakker) said.
NodeWrangler just uses Image Texture node(s) internally, it inserts a menu with operators into the node category menus, so no, these are not nodes that are found by the search...
