@Rune Morling (ermo) @Alan Odom (Clockmender) hi, the following is a template about access to the blender addons project. I think it's a good time now to start the review process.

hi @Rune Morling (ermo) the best option at this time is to create a wiki on your github. I'm still working on the Add-ons Manual, we have already accepted docs from github wiki or/and linked into github wiki via the addon. Later down the track I can look at the Blender Manual page and either transfer your work or link to your git.

We would like to prepare a manual for PDT. Should we be using the official Blender wiki or ...?

no erroror message. Under preferences, I have uncheked several import format, like dxf, stl, fbx and others. They are still unchecked, but are not available. The only import or export format are now abc or dae. This happends after update of Windows. I have uninstalled the updates but this did not help

Damien Picard (pioverfour) added a comment to D5675: Rigify: store advanced options in armature instead of window manager.

i believe that exposing the need of using a prefix or suffix is better support for the user than answer to all fake bug reports related to a wrong usage of the add-on. If you let people understand what the add-on should work like, they usually learn how to do it. Rigify has suffered for long time of undocumented feature and obscure feature options in the ui.

Ivan Cappiello (icappiello) added a comment to D5675: Rigify: store advanced options in armature instead of window manager.

It would be better than the current options, but I think it would make the system less flexible and more complicated, with little benefit since they will need to set the naming options for every rig they create anyway. Setting three options is neither faster nor simpler than just one.
I believe naming things properly is the user’s responsibility, whether creating objects by hand or using an add-on.

Ivan Cappiello (icappiello) added a comment to D5675: Rigify: store advanced options in armature instead of window manager.

i am more concerned about the naming issue:
Since the source rig is by default named metarig, when it generates use to default rig as name. Most people uses it like that.
If you do not append _rig at the end, when making a proxy it will became very difficult to get what you are looking for.
So, yes, it could be removed, but then you have to explain the users they have to put something there to find it later on.
i think this is not good so, in my opinion, _rig should stay.

I don’t think I understand the problem. Say I create character Char. I’ll want to proxy only the armature when linking the character to a shot scene. It makes sense to me that the object I’ll manipulate is named the same as the character, so the rig will be named Char as well. The meshes might be called Char_mesh.001 or something. Then the armature’s not particularly hard to find in the list: the rig object appears first in alphabetical order since it doesn’t have a suffix.
I’m not saying mine is a perfect use case, or even a typical use case, but it is a use case different from yours. I don’t think all users will name their objects the same, and this scheme shouldn’t be imposed on them. What if they want to have a rig_ prefix instead of a suffix? what if they want to have a .rig with a dot as a separator? what if they want to name it in their native language _squelette? what if they use two armatures for the same character? And what about the ui script: there is no ambiguity there, it should be Char_ui.py and not Char_rig_ui.py.
As you said, there is a default name, rig, which is fine. The custom name is in Advanced Options. I think an advanced user will know if they need a suffix added for them.

storing the data on the armature is ok. The whole system is designed to make appending of metarig as simple as possible.

It is not clean what "enabled of disabled rendering on this view layer" checkbox influences, or maybe I'm lost in the interface to find what it is related to.

That checkbox controls whether the view layer will be rendered when you do a render or press F12.
Let's say you have a scene with two collections and you want them in separate View Layers for compositing, you have to isolate them in each View Layer, but now you can't see your entire scene. So you make a View Layer that shows you everything, but you only need it in the viewport, not for the final render (and you don't want the added render time). So now you can easily disable rendering of the View Layer with that checkbox (you can also find that checkbox in the View Layer Properties tab under the View Layer panel in the Properties Editor).

auto-parsing of commits in 2.81 branches is still not fully working it seems… Changed those 'flags' in rBA2476c0b4b2789e65f1ef95989d4e42dfd784be45 (and merged it in master), so this should be testable in next daily build.

There is no bug here, things are working as expected, with some limitations indeed. This is a complex mix of python and blender API, you cannot always use all the magic of pristine python with it.

Renato Henriques (Spartacus1) added a comment to T68704: Documentation: explain that Blender 2.80 Exporting a textured OBJ with any shader other than Principled BSDF will result in an MTL without map_Kd pointing to texture file.

As Ryan said, it's tolerable that complex textures with layers are not exported. However, image textures should be exported correctly, as in any other 3D package.

Afaik, A tag means 'animated', and U means 'user-defined data' (this is just assumptions from older FBX I analyzed during main development phase of the add-on, think there are no official info about those anywhere)…

Took me days of pulling hair and googling to find that textures not exporting is by design. I don't think it's an unreasonable user expectation for simple shaders like Diffuse BDSF to export texture images. I can live with the workaround however. It's just extremely obscure and unintuitive.

Note:
In source/blender/python/intern/bpy_props.c:1657
PyFunction_Check could be PyCallable_Check. Not sure if the PyFunction_GET_CODE would still work, but I believe there are functions to do the same with callable objects.
It uses PyObject_CallObject to call so I guess that should work.
