System Information
Operating system:Ubuntu 20.04.1
Graphics card: AMD Radeon 6700 XT

Blender Version
3.31

Short description of error
When I click "GPU Compute", it's grayed out.
I have everything it says I need it Preferences > System, but it still says i don't have a compatible graphics card. Tried this on Windows, still doesn't work.
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Open Blender
Go to the Render Properties tab
Select Cycles as rendering engine
Select GPU Compute in Devices

Thanks for the report. Did you get any message printed in the console?
Does this happen in default cube file? Maybe render kernels are loading at the time of freeze.

No. It didn't freeze in the first place, anyways.

I did it in the default cube file, too. It doesn't even work on any files at all.

Thanks. Please launch blender with --debug-cycles/--debug-gpu argument. See if that prints any relevant error and paste it here.
Please also upload system info: {nav Help > Save System Info}

I use the Steam version, so I can't do that.

Hi, from the information I got, it's not possible to run blender in steam with command line arguments
In windows, you could do that. Locate exact path of blender executable. There You'll find batch files blender_debug_gpu_glitchworkaround / blender_debug_gpu
Double click to run these batch files and reproduce the issue in that. After closing blender, log files will generate. Upload them here.
