%%%I can't get small tiles while F12 rendering in Cycles. For instance if I render 500x500 image, the max tile count I can get is 64 (=8x8 tiles number). If I increase tiles number to 9x9 or any higher number it still renders at 64 tiles only. Limitation follows image size (e.g. for image 1000*1000 max is 16x16=256 tiles). It behaves this way only if I have "Save buffers" disabled. When I enable "Save Buffers" then tiles count works as expected without any limitations (however resulting render is flipped upside-down, but this is probably another bug). Bug happens on every scene (you can see it even on default scene).

System specs:

  • Ubuntu 12.04
  • Official buils 2.64.2 (but affects also previous official version and all custom-built version I downloaded from GraphicAll.org)
  • NVidia 304.51(from xedgers)

%%%SVN 51302 works fine here (Windows 7 x64)

The tile limitation of (example) 8x8 is intended, more tiles will only slow it down here. There is an internal clamping based on Image Size etc.
With Save Buffers it works fine with more tiles, and also renders correct here. %%%

%%%This is intended behavior to not have far too small tiles and minimal tile size indeed 64 now. Smaller tiles wouldn't give you any benefit.
As per Save Buffer enabled such a limitation was lost some time ago, but it for sure also should clamp. I'm currently looking into this code.%%%
