%%%I noticed the zoom in 3d view window has changed. If I save a file with an object with blender previous to rev 51594 and then open the same blend file with blender indentical or later to rev 51594 the objects appear larger or in other words it is all more zoomed in.

This is in my case a problem because I use 'Project From View' uv mapping. Now if I need to update my uv mapping nothing fits together anymore.

I don't know if this can be considered as a bug but it would be nice to get the old zoom back. :)%%%

%%%I compared latest svn with 2.64 release, and the 3d viewport zoom is identical... provide a .blend, or check an official build from builder.blender.org?
Remember, it's only a bug if someone can redo it :) Give us material how to!%%%

%%%Ton, this is noticeable when you set viewport to ortho mode. Before commit 51594 ortho mode was always using lens of 32, which lead to big hopping when you're toggling between ortho and perspective modes in cases viewport lens are not 32mm. Now ortho mode is aware of lens size which reduces hopping, but indeed could have negative effect in cases you're relying on viewport zoom.

Workaround for Heiko should be setting viewport lens to 32 -- it should make zoom factor for ortho mode exactly the same as in previous versions. (and yes, it'll affect on perspective mode as well).

Personally, i don't think it's a bug.%%%

%%%Ok Ton, I was not exact enough. :)

It only seems to concern the orthographic view mode. I just opend the default scene and switched to side view (orthographic) - with the official 2.64 release the cube appears smaller compared with builds, rev 51594 and above.%%%

%%%Heiko - if you test the new ortho way of working it does feel much nicer, don't you think?

The only work around could be trying to correct old stored ortho views to draw similar to previous? You think that's doable sergey?%%%

%%%Ton, perhaps we can write do_versions code which would scale all view3d's distance in cases those viewports are in ortho mode. But it'll also affect on cases you'll go to perspective mode -- results would be different in current trunk and pre-51594. Not sure it makes more sense than just manually set viewport lens to 32 in cases such a compatibility is really important?%%%

%%%Yes, Ton the new ortho way is really nicer and to set the viewport lens to 32 brings my old zoom back. :) Now at least I don't consider it as a bug anymore. :P

as a side note because the viewport lens works now in orthographic view as well the tool tip discription could be changed from 'lens angle in perpective view' to something different maybe '3D view lens angle'%%%

%%%Corrected the tooltip in svn rev51636.

Still don't think it'll worth adding do_versions which would work in some cases only. As long Heiko isn't annoyed by this change anymore, will mark the report as solved :)%%%
