crashing file in edit mode cycles #33667

1 - There is this Black faces near top of box
this looks like a bug on mesh!

2 - If i copy the outside faces and move left then seperate it P key ine dit mode

  it will crash the file

This mesh had faces with invalid material indices - that is why they were black. On separating (P) you'd get a crash.
Such cases should be avoided, but can happen with all scripting and importing that goes on.

  • fixed the crash
  • made blender UI to draw no material in the buttons for such faces (so you know it is an invalid face)

Workaround for you: select the faces and assign them a material (in material properties).%%%
