%%%--- Operating System, Graphics card ---
Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit, Radeon 7750

- Blender version with error, and version that worked ---

Blender 2.68a (64-bit, official build r58537)

- Short description of error ---

I can't get the Blender game engine to lock to 144fps on my 144Hz monitor, an Asus VG248QE. Regardless of what my monitor's rate is set to, having "Use Frame Rate" in the System options checked always results in 60fps. Adjusting the rates in the full screen options, or other options doesn't seem to work around this. I can turn off the "Use Frame Rate," but then things run a bit too fast.

- Steps for others to reproduce the error (preferably based on attached .blend file) ---

1: Launch Blender on a monitor with a refresh rate set to >60 fps.
2: Change the render engine to "Blender Game"
3: Turn on "Frame Rate and Profile" in the Display options. "Use Frame Rate" is already on by default.
4: Press P to start the game engine.
Result: The game engine always runs at 60fps, even when the monitor is on 85, 120, of 144 Hz.

%%%There's an fps settings under world tab > physics panel, did you try changing that? Seems that affects more than just physics.

I don't know the specifics of how these settings are supposed to work though, will leave that to a game engine developer.%%%

%%%Brecht, changing that setting did exactly what I needed to do.

It turns out that the physics fps setting is what the "Use Frame Rate" parameter is looking at, not the screen's refresh rate. Setting the physics fps to 200 caps the frame rate at 200, even though that rate isn't displayed.

Maybe the tooltip on the "use frame rate" checkbox should reflect this.%%%

%%%If you want to cap your framerate to the screen's refresh rate, you can enable Vsync, which is in System panel of the Render properties. However, a tooltip change should probably be done to make Use Frame Rate clearer.%%%
