%%%The search-shortcut doesn't exist/is not consistent in the node-editor as opposed to the rest of blender. As a blender beginner, this was annoying.

  • This bug report was made thanks to this: Andrew Price's clip on usability in Blender.%%%

%%%What do you mean? If I press "Space" in the node editor, it does bring up the search in the node editor.
I can even bring up a node search there with Ctrl+F

Also, please watch this for future bug reports: https://vimeo.com/75649649
:)

BUT! While investigating this I did find 2 actual bugs related to this:
When in compositing node editor "use nodes" is turned off, and i use the search, look for "node" and then select "use nodes" it gives and error that this is not a material.
When I select "add node" from the search it gives a python error. And if, after searching for "node" I try "add file node socket" (no idea what that is even), it crashes Blender.
Maybe I should turn this into a real bug report though...%%%

%%%Fixed the crash and the exception on "add node" reported by Sebastian. The exception in the "use nodes" operator is from cycles, which tries to access material, world and lamp attributes in the context, which for some reason are not defined in the spacebar menu.%%%
