Deleting a branch is permanent. Although the deleted branch may continue to exist for a short time before it actually gets removed, it CANNOT be undone in most cases. Continue?

Short description of error
read-only .blend files have their file system permissions changed and are overwritten without warning
but the UV/image editor behaves as expected for image files (save option is greyed out + error is shown)
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
change a .blend file permissions to -r--r--r--
open in Blender and save

This seems to still be an issue when writing files in a network drive. Other programs respect the read-only status of a file (e.g. notepad.exe), but blender still deletes the write-protected file and creates a writable file with the same name.
