LinuxMint 15 x86-64
Kernel 3.8.0-30-generic
NVidia GTX 760

Blender Version
Broken: Blender 2.96 r60991

Short description of error
OpenGL Preview and "Only Render" Display settings show objects not visible in the final rendering{F56836}

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • open the attached *.blend file
  • in the "Only Render" Viewport preview, both, the cube and the sphere are visible
  • when you click on the opengl preview also both, the cube and the sphere are visible
  • but when rendering the scene using cycles or the original blender renderer, only the sphere is visible

Steps I've made to create the attached blender file:

  • open blender
  • load factory settings
  • create new mesh-object (sphere)
  • add the sphere to a new group (I've used the properties panel) and name it "A"
  • move the sphere (I've moved it using - [x],- [x],- [x],[enter])
  • move the sphere to another layer
  • select the cube
  • in it's duplication panel, select group and then the group "A"
  • select cylces render
  • open the viewport properties (using - [x]) and check "Only Render" => the cube and the sphere are both visible
  • render it in cycles => only the sphere is visible
  • render it using the blender render => only the sphere is visible

Discussed the fix with @brecht. It is rather tricky change which is not as straightforward as it first looked like. It is now in our TODO list: http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Dev:2.5/Source/Development/Todo/Editors#3D_View

Thanks for the report, but closing it as TODO.
