Can't select strips inside a Meta on the Mask Modifier #38672

Blender Version
v2.69.10 1c866c3

Short description of error
Strips inside a Meta strip are not available in the strip selection field of a Mask modifier, even when both Mask and masked strip shares the same Meta. Mask selection list shows only strips outside Meta strips. It's clearly an UI issue, since Mask selection list should inherit the strip context and show only strips in the same Meta, hiding Meta outside strips. Now it has the opposite behaviour from what it's expected.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • Add 2 input strips, create a Meta of them and get inside of it.
  • Add a Mask modifier to one of them and try to select the other as a Strip Mask.
  • The selection list will list only the Meta strip.

Workaround:
Undo Meta, add the mask and then group Meta again. Drawback: You'll lost any Meta config.

As a workaround for until proper fix is here: you could type strip name directly. No need to choose it from the list.

Thank you, @Sergey ! This was a very often issue in my last project. I did try to type strip name directly, but right after I had finished and typed ENTER, the field was cleaned by Blender.

@PauloJoseOliveiraAmaro, does it work all fine now for you?

Almost, @sergey. The list includes strips inside the Meta but not outside, which is perfect. But I did a test adding 2 Color strips to a Meta, and if I select the first Color strip and add a Mask modifier, the list don't includes the second one. But if I select the second, the first one is showed in the list.

I tested it with image and movie strips, but it don't happen to them (they work properly). But to every effect strip I tested (Glow, Trasform...), there's the problem of only displaying (in the Mask selection list) the effects strips created previously the current one.

Interesting discovery. It seems to somehow relate on stack order -- as in it's not possible to use effect strip from the top. Having a look whether it's intentional due to design limitation or just some sideeffect.

Fixed in Git now. Unfortunately, it wouldn't be in testbuild. But it'll be in the next buildbot builds and RC1 and release :)

Hi @Sergey, sorry if my comment comes too late. Initially I also though it was related to it just showing strips of channels below the current one, but then I realize that it seams to be related to the creation order of the strips instead.

I'll test the next buildbot. Thank you so muc, I admire very much your effort and good skills.
