System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.18362 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce GTX 750 Ti/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 445.75

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.80 (sub 75), branch: master, commit date: 2019-07-29 14:47, hash: f6cb5f5449
Worked: (optional)

Short description of error
I am trying to switch from 3dsMax to Blender, and I've found a problem in setting the same navigation shortcuts as in 3dsmax (Alt +Mouse Middle button - for orbiting and Middle button - for panning viewport) because in blender it works only if the order of pressing buttons executed. So you can't press Mouse middle button and then press Alt to orbit the view, because it blender thinks- you pressed only Middle Button. The problem always appears when I'm in the process of modeling, and I need to pan or rotate very often - so when I do fast switches between keys and mouse clicking, middle mouse button almost always is being pressed earlier than a key on the keyboard - so blender doesn't consider Alt - because it was pushed after middle mouse button, and instead of rotating it executes panning. In 3dsmax -pressing and un pressing ALT or other keys while Middle Mouse button pressed - changes the action. I know this flexibility may be just 3dsMax feature, but I think this basic thing would make Blender much easier to deal with especially for a long time 3dsMax users as me.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Set the shortcut for Rotate View - Alt+Middle Mouse. Set the shortcut for Pan View - Middle Mouse
  2. Press Middle Mouse and after ALT. Blender doesn't execute rotation. Or after pressing Alt+Middle Mouse, unpress the button Alt. The rotation of the view still continues

Thanks for the report, but the issue reported here is a request for modified/improved behavior rather than a bug in current behavior. We get so many reports that it only makes sense to use the tracker for issues where the current code isn't working as expected, so I have to close this.

Personally I agree with you that the method you propose would be better than the current behavior. Hopefully I can get some time to look into the code side of this and maybe make some changes if other people agree, but it's out of scope for the bug tracker.

Thank you for your attention, Hans. I look forward to Blender becoming the best 3d animation solution in a market. Thank you for your work, guys!
