Silent crash when applying fire + smoke to monkey #88530

Short description of error
Largely what it says on the tin. Applying and playing a fire + smoke effect on a monkey head causes a silent crash with no terminal feedback.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Open Blender to the default setup.
  2. Delete the default cube.
  3. Add a monkey head.
  4. Add a "Quick Smoke" with the monkey head selected.
  5. Select the monkey head.
  6. Go to the "Physics Properties" tab.
  7. Change "Flow Type" to "Fire + Smoke."
  8. Play the animation. Blender should crash at around frame 20.

This does not occur with other objects as far as I can tell. It also does not occur with a simple "Fire" or "Smoke" effect, only the "Fire + Smoke" effect.

To add:
The steps are a bit ambiguous to me.
When I add Quick Smoke and go to the Physics Properties. I do first need to change the Fluid Type from Domain to Flow and then select the Flow type to be Fire+Smoke, so the actual effect in the viewport disappears as soon as I make the change.

Also, using the Smoke Style from pop-up on bottom left to Smoke & Fire, I get no crash on Windows 10, on both 2.92 and 3.0.0

You need to select the monkey head first; otherwise, you will be editing the fluid domain's box, not the emitter itself.

I can't reproduce this on 2.92.0 on a Linux box. I get past frame 20 without any issues in both Eevee and Cycles.

Neither I can reproduce on 2.92.0 (also can not reproduce on 2.93.0 and 3.0.0)
May be some information is missing here so .blend file would help, can you please attach the file here??

Do you get crash logs?

If 2 other people aren't able to redo the bug after 2 weeks, it will be closed.

We appreciate the effort that goes into making bug reports, but to be able to fix bugs we have to be able to redo them.
