System Information
Operating system: windows64x, ryzen 3970x, 128gb ram.....
Graphics card: MSI Gaming trio X OC 3090
Blender Version
Broken versions tested: 2.92 - 2.93 - 3.0 (example: 2.80, edbf15d3c044, master, 2018-11-28, as found on the splash screen)
Worked: Removing problem meshes (MESH: TOWEL_1 to TOWEL_7) this model is found on blenderkit (found on Blenderkit)
Short description of error
Mesh with hair and detail caused bugging in render and viewport - even when model is not in render frame.
Render sampled problem meshes for 30 Minutes + and filled 3090 GPU memory while causing shut down of system ("GPU and CPU SYSTEM OUT OF MEMORY" ERROR)
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
You would need to load and render the following mesh from blenderkit: https://www.blenderkit.com/asset-gallery-detail/b2f89ba3-301e-491d-8420-179116baf317/
The towel mesh and associated modifiers cause major instability in all features - experimental, GPU and CPU render with fail of system on render and extreme lag in viewport - even when mesh is not in view or frame.
Removing the towel meshes from the collection immediately restores renders and controll.

@ArloMarkantonatos This model is way too complex. Please reduce the issue to a simple .blend file and upload it to this task.

we've had the same problem with 2 different interior scenes rendered with 3090 and blender 3.0.
the file, even with packed textures, weights around 3.5GB. no hair systems or tricky stuff, around 3.000.000 vertices. the 3090s vram filled almost immediately for no reasons. can't provide a file nor finding the core problem, but hope that serves as a hint for developers to further investigate.
It is one of the towels used in or originated from that model - and only when the have a glass or refraction object channeling the lighting source (HDRI lighting through a glass material).
I figured it out through a process of elimination.
They also seemed to be rendering / processing even when not in frame.
Also, if you switch out of shader to solid or material mode while rendering.
