Zooming Issue when in Edit (part) mode #89008

System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.19041-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 457.51

Blender Version
Broken: version: 3.0.0 Alpha, branch: master, commit date: 2021-06-07 22:19, hash: ef5a362a5b
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
Cannot zoom in on areas on big parts for some reason

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
[Please describe the exact steps needed to reproduce the issue]

  • Select a big part, the size of an airplane or car door.
  • Go to Vertice mode.
  • Try to zoom in to a small section of Vertices so you can weld them or move them around. You'll find you hit a wall limit of zooming.

BUT...... IF you to go Object mode, create a cube, scale it way down to small size, move it to the area you need to work on Vertices at, use F to zoom in on the small cube, then select the big object, select Edit you are right where you need to be, close to your Vertices, able to see them nicely, and can work on the area.

I do not remember this happening.

To compound the issue, we have no way to zoom (Fill, F key) on things like selected Polygons or Vertices or Edges. For instance, we want to work on a super small area, do surgery on some vertices on a big area, there seems to be no way to zoom to that small patch.

I am glad I figured out how to use a small object for zooming. :) That helps tremendously for a work around.

The shortcut to zoom to the currently-selected object also works to zoom to the currently-selected geometry, by default.

Also, for reference -- "F" is the "Frame Selected" operation in the "Industry Standard" keymap. It's normally the "." key on your number pad.

It sounds like you're using that preset, but also have F bound to "Make Edge/Face", or some other action.
