Thanks for the report. This is not a bug, it is expected behavior.
Since no mesh element is selected, value of
tvs.transverts_tot
will be zero and it will make the following condition true. (This condition will make the early exit from the function to prevent changing the view)return false;
}```
Pardon, I forgot including the "select all" step after switching modes to reproduce the behavior,
I recorded a video showcasing it here to help along:
2021-07-26_22-38-57.mp4
I guess the confusion is maybe an UX paradigm as the selection visual indication is very similar to edge select mode,
I understand however its possible to have more than one selection mode toggled at the same time, hence not ideal to prevent the user from selecting the edges on face-mode.
Kind regards

Transverts will only be created for selected faces (see
ED_transverts_create_from_obedit
), so what @PratikPB2123 said is still true.In regards to visualizing selection in facemode, this is probably worth reporting separately (this can only be achieved with {key A}, right? or are there other operators making a selection in face select mode on a mesh without faces? When reporting this separately, this report can be referenced for additional background)
In any case, the issue reported here is not a bug, faces need to be selected to be considered for centering view.
