System Information
Operating system: macOS-10.15.7-x86_64-i386-64bit 64 Bits
Graphics card: AMD Radeon Pro Vega 64 OpenGL Engine ATI Technologies Inc. 4.1 ATI-3.10.18
Blender Version
Broken: version: 3.0.0, branch: master, commit date: 2021-12-02 18:35, hash:
f1cca30557
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)
Short description of error
I have an object that has been cached in USD with multiple shaders in it. When I load it in Blender, only one shader is applied to everything but it looks ok in edit mode.
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Please open the attached file and relink the USD if needed. The woman will be green. Go in edit mode, she will have different colors on her. Doesn't work in Linux with an Nvidia card either.

It works properly with alembic

Thanks for reporting this. I'll take a look.

Looks fine here (tested 3.0 and 3.1 Alpha)
Seems to be a GPU issue?
@makowalski : can you actually reproduce this?
Hi @lichtwerk: Yes, I can reproduce this, but not always as originally described. One way I can reliably reproduce it is to import that USD directly and attempt to change the material colors, which has no effect unless in edit mode. I haven't had a chance to investigate this yet but will do so in the next day or so.
@Funnybob My apologies for the delay looking into this. I've identified the source of the bug in the logic for setting material face sets when the mesh sequence cache modifier is applied. I have a solution which I'm currently testing and will update this thread when the fix is ready.
I sent a bug report for Maya in 1996 and it's still not fixed. You found a solution for this one in about a week. So you're not going to hear any complaints from me. No need to apologize. You deserve all my respect. Thanks Michael!
Changed status from 'Needs Developer To Reproduce' to: 'Resolved'
This bug was actually fixed some time ago as part of refactoring by Hans in https://developer.blender.org/rBf1c0249f34c4. The materials should now be loading correctly. My apologies for not updating the status of this bug sooner.
