Video reference doesn't load at the frame where it was saved if the mode was not object mode #101386

Simplified Report

  • Add a movie reference image object.
  • Set the scene frame to 10.
  • Add a cube and enter Sculpt mode
  • Change the frame number to 20.
  • Save the file and reload.
  • The reference movie displays frame 10 even though the scene is at frame 20.
  • This seems to happen because the scene frame was changed and saved in non Object mode

Seems to objects ImageUser that is used for saving is not the same as the one used for drawing, and the framenr is only updated for the ob used in drawing?

Original Report

System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.19044-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 516.94

Blender Version
Broken: version: 3.3.0, branch: master, commit date: 2022-09-06 15:39, hash: 0759f671ce
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
Video reference does not load at same place left when closing and reopening blender.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Load a video file as a reference or a background. Scrub to a random location not at 0 for the video's duration. Save and close blender. Reopen blender. You will notice that the timeline is on frame 22 (for example) but the reference video is displaying frame 0. It would be nice if since you are on or saved on frame 22 that the reference video would load in the startup of blender on frame 22 of its playback as well.

I can confirm the issue when the scene frame is changed in a mode that is not Object mode.
Not sure which module is responsible, so tagging the User Interface module for now.

It only seems to work when the empty itself is selected

Hm, maybe selection is not even enough?
For some reason I cant get it to save the framenr correctly at all now.

@OmarEmaraDev : do you have conditions where this actually saves correctly?

It seems to always save correctly when I am in object mode regardless if it is selected or not.
