Snap to vertex sometimes does not work #29994

%%%I have problems with snap to vertex. Often it does not work. See attached video. Sometimes it snaps to desired vertex when I change zoom or view direction. And when I separate several problematic vertices from bigger mesh to new mesh, it snaps without problems. Video is also here: http://youtu.be/wEjy6zCbOhc

Now I'am using blender r43597 from Irie's PPA on Ubuntu 11.10 64bit, but I had this problem a long time ago with various releases. Right now it is really annoying, because it snaps to, let's say, 30% of vertices, for the rest I must change view or separate them from big mesh.%%%

%%%I couldn't redo the problem here. It seems to be snapping to some other vertices outside of the view somehow, but we'd need what kind of mesh / view setup causes that.

If you can't share the .blend file, it's usually possible to make a copy of it and remove everything except for a few vertices and faces?%%%

%%%Yes it might be a regression. I've tested several scenes i've got and can't reproduce the issue. Having test scene will save us plenty of time trying to reproduce the issue.
Removing all not-related objects and mesh geometries from scene which fails might make it shareable.
Also, please test fresh builds from http://builder.blender.org/download/ (such kind of issues might be related on building environment/configuraiton).%%%

%%%You are right, here is part of the scene. Try to edit selected mesh, grab selected vertex and snap it with Ctrl in areas marked by grease pencil.%%%

%%%Tried r43742 from builder and a didn't noticed the problem. Maybe it is already fixed by concidence?%%%

%%%Also can't reproduce here. Maybe it was fixed or it's indeed matter of build environment (i.e. more aggressive optimizaiton flags). If it doesn't happen for you with builds from our buildbot (which are almost the same configuration as release builds except things like softwaregl and so) then think it'll be better to poke guys from PPA.
So, if it's solved in our builds think report can be closed until issue appear again.%%%

%%%I'll wait for next update from PPA and check it with the problematic file. Thank you all for your time a I'am sorry, if I wasted it.%%%

I have this problem with 2.72 and it appears to happen whenever multiple objects are selected or if objects are parented to the object that's supposed to be moved. Moving only one and clearing the children makes the snapping work again.

Please attach simple .blend file with exact steps of reproducing the issue.Maybe it worth creating a new report for this.

I ran across this issue and it was because I had it set to Active instead of Closest. Hope that helps.
