%%%When saving a text file in the text editor, Blender will automatically save the file with out a file extension like '.txt' or '.py' appended to it thus making the file invisible to Blender's file browser when one wants to open it later on in the text editor. The file will remain invisible in the file browser even when the 'Show script files' file filter button is turned on.

When I disable the Fitlering of Files button (funnel button) in the file browser the extension-less plain text files along with every other file in the dir will be displayed but doing this is just a work around. Also I should mention that Blender does allow one to add an extension to the file when one is in the process of saving it but perhaps this should be automatic. I think most people would agree that the files should have a '.py' extension appended to the file name by default in the 'save' or 'save as' process.

%%%I'd wouldn't agree file should have ".py" extension by default. text editor is used not only for scripting, it also using for stuff like credits, titles and so on, where default extension can't be ".py".
Can't think about solution which will resolve the issue in a way, acceptable for both artists (who are using .txt blocks) and scripters (who are using .py blocks).
Thanks for the report, but i'd wouldn't consider this is a bug -- it's known for a long time thing to be improved (http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Dev:2.5/Source/Development/Todo/Editors#Text_Editor)%%%

%%%Right but there should at least be a pop up that lets the user select an extension like .txt or .py to append to the file. Making sure there is an extension appended to the end of a file made in the text editor will ensure that the saved file will show up when the 'Show script files' filter is activated. Or perhaps there should be a warning before saving that says something like

"The text file you are about to save does not have an extension. If you save it now it will not show up in the file browser even if 'Show script files' filter is enabled"

I would consider this to be a user experience bug.%%%
