View clip not working correctly in orthographic view #31098

%%%View -> Properties ->

View Clip: "Start" has no effect in Orthographic mode. "End" modifies both near and far clipping plane.

In Perspective mode, both "Start" and "End" behave as expected.

This is with 64-bit Blender 2.64 running under 64-bit Windows 7.%%%

%%%This is true but not really a bug since its intended behavior, since for ortho view you dont have a starting view location.

possible fix would be just to not show the start button in ortho view (or grey out),
if someone wants to do this - make sure this works ok for quad view too.%%%

%%%Thanks for the response.

I have some alternative suggestions for solving this (1. is simplest to do, 3. is in my option the best solution):

  1. Document the current behavior in the wiki documentation (in http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Doc:2.6/Manual/3D_interaction/Navigating/3D_View_Options ?)

  2. Hide or grey out the "Start" button like you suggest. Preferably then the "End" button should be changed to "Depth" or something

  3. Maybe there is no real real (mathematically) starting view location, but since it is possible to switch between ortho and perspective view, at least there is an implied camera position. To me the best solution would be to have the "Start" and "End" clip values work relative to this implied camera position

Anyway, I am just a humble Blender user. I think the Blender team is doing a great job, and my suggestions are made only to try to improve Blender even further.%%%

%%%Added note in the tooltip that the clip start is for the perspective view only.

These are also shown when in camera view, but thinking about this further I prefer not to have the buttons change too much depending on the view, espcially since we would have to inspect quadview to do this properly.
