%%%I can confirm, that toggling "Rotation" on an off has an effect if e.g. "Fluid" is chosen as the particle physics type. If "No" (in C: PART_PHYS_NO) is chosen as "particle physics type", toggleing the "Rotation" checkbox on an off has no effect. The latter seems to be an error.%%%

%%%Confirmed, particle "use_rotation" option seems to be ignored in a lot of cases.

Unfortunately fixing this is not really feasible, it would take too much time and is almost impossible to get my head around all possible combinations of settings. The use_rotation option was added as a quick fix for another rotation bug with point caches (- [x], - [x]), but seems this just makes things worse. Will put this on the todo graveyard unless somebody else is eager to get their hands dirty ...

Thanks @brecht for merging my issue! I searched for existing reports, but somehow I didn't find this one. So conclusion is that it's something that won't be fixed until the rewrite? Or are we trying to fix it while being on the 2.71 cycle? I'm not pushing, just want to know if I should bring it into my book or if I should leave it out with a comment.

Greetings, Thomas

I don't think anyone is actively trying to fix this at the moment, it's been there for a few releases so it's not so likely that it will be fixed for 2.71 and it may wait until a particle system rewrite.

Ok, thanks @brecht! It's not the answer I hoped for, but I understand the cause..Let's hope particle nodes are ready soon ;)

Moving to TODO now http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Dev:2.5/Source/Development/Todo/Tools#Particles

We'll have a look into all the limitations at once as a part of Gooseberry project.
