%%%OS: Windows 7 64
3D Card: Nvidia GTX 260
Blender: 2.64 RC2

When when both: cut through option and limit to selection for knife is active tool usually avoid some faces during cutting. Simple method to redo this:

  • place cube
  • set view to right
  • rotate view about 30 deg. (Num6 x2)
  • select all faces in edit mode
  • make a cut as marked red line on attached image

%%%First, please tell, what the actual problem is that you have.

For me, everything works as expected, BUT there's some little detail that could be confusing at first. It's the time when you activate the "cut through" option:

  1. If you first draw the cut line and then press ZKEY (to activate cut through) the edges in the background won't be cut. That is perfectly OK and not a bug.
  2. If you press KKEY, then ZKEY and then draw the line, your geometry in the background will be cut. Please, notice the little squares appearing when hovering the backside edge while executing the knife operation.

If you were trying to cut your geometry using method 1), please try method 2) and your problem should be gone. If yo, please confirm so.

Does this solve your problem?

%%%Hmm... But if you chose to cut selection (Shift+K) cut through is active by default... Strange is, that if I cut along straight line all works fine. When I use your second way problen is still present. Here it is small animated gif showing problem (with default keymaping for knife). www.airart3d.com/images/stories/cut_bad_habit.gif . %%%

%%%My problem is still unsolved. I think, that main problem is in cut through options - without it works perfect (no matter if "only selected" or default whole mesh is active). Using one, straight cut also give good result. I checked on three machines and problem was the same: after activcting cut through option cuting as shown on attached files no faces were cut.

Animation attached show knife behaviour in some conditions. White arrow marks "Cut through" stat%%%

%%%Any news? My problem is still exist even after transfer to 2.64 version (official) and using default configuration.%%%

%%%This is a known limitation of the way that cut-through works right now. Cut-though can only cut through faces from edge-to-edge. When you draw multiple cut segments, stopping in the middle of faces, the way your animation shows, there are no cuts that go completely across a face, so the behavior is as expected right now. Cut-through mode really only works well if you start outside the mesh on one side and end outside the mesh on the other side.

It is a TODO to make cut-through mode work as flexibly as non-cut-through mode, but it is not easy, so this fix will not be immediate, sorry.
