Maya keymap Preset not loading correctly

Blender 2.64 - > error
Blender 2.65a -> error

--- Short description of error ---
When the Maya keymap preset is selected from the splash screen drop-down or from the User Settings, it seems to activate the keymap preset, but, if i enter to the edit mode on the default cube and try to select and de-select some vertices using SHIFT+Left Click, it works for do the selection but does not work for de-selection.
--- Steps for others to reproduce the error (preferably based on attached .blend file) ---
1) Open Blender
2) Select Maya keymap Preset
3) Select the default Cube on scene and enter edit mode.
4) Try to de-seletx some vertices using SHIFT-Left button mouse

--- Fix ---

If you open Blender, select the Maya key preset and then save the user settings. When you close and reopen Blender the selection problem looks fixed.
Note: some users reported this fix does not work for them.

In light of recent BA thread (http://www.blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?293223-Maya-Keyconfig-deselect) I tested this with 2.66a, 2.67 and 2.67a. While the shift+lmb deselection works on 2.66a, in 2.67 (and 2.67a) it doesn't. Active object does get changed, but objects are not deselected.
