%%%Win7 64bit - GTX 560 - Blender RC1 2.68

Problem: If a file is saved with the user preferences window open, when it get reopened, the Preferences window is drawn with stange images instead of the correct user interface. You need to close it and reopen it to solve the error. I attach a screen of an example.

Start a default blender, open the user preferences. Save the file, and close. Now reopen the file and go to the user preferences window that sould have reopen, but is reduced to icon. It should appear very strange.

%%%I can see the problem opening the attached file, it indeed has invalid screen setup in the user preferences window, but I couldn't get such a file saved (which is where the bug seems to be).

Could you give exact steps for how you save such file. Do you switch back to the main window and select save file from the menu, do you press ctrl+S with user preferences still as the front window, .. ? The attached file has a render window open too, is that related? I tried different variations but couldn't redo the problem.%%%

%%%Well, I start Blender from desktop. I open the Pref window. I switch back to the main window and from menu a make save as... and save the file. Then I close with the X of the window. So when I close Blender, the pref window is behind the main. When I reopen that file, the focus is on the pref window, but it is behind the main window. I have to click on the main window to put the focus on it and start working. But if go to the pref window, it appears black, or with strange draws.
I don't remember to had let a render window open in the file I gave you. That's all.%%%

Hi Lell,

I tried recreating the bug without success. I used the steps you have outlined being:

  • Open Blender (focus is on Main window)
  • Open Prefs
  • Move focus back to Main window
  • Use Save As and save file
  • Close Main using X window close (User Prefs is behind but closes as well).

When I reopen this file the user preferences are in drawn in front and there is no problem. My specs are: Blender version 2.69; Win 7 64 bit, 16 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 540M.

Could you please review the steps when you have a moment with the latest release build and and make sure this still occurs? If so can you please clarify the steps so we can replicate the bug.

Thanks.

One possible way to fix this is that the user preference window should not be saved. This way Blender will not be re opening the user preferences window. This seems like a reasonable thing to do since a user does not really need it open still unlike duplicating other Windows. Does anyone have any objections or comments on this type of fix?
