%%%--- Operating System, Graphics card ---
OS: windows 7 64bit; Ubuntu 13.04
GPU: nvidia quadro k4000

- Blender version with error, and version that worked ---

error: 2.68a; r59728

- Short description of error ---

the key assignments for file selection is different from os keys and i dont see a reason why this should work differently than in the OS

  • windows: "SHIFT+LeftMouseButton" select multiple files and every file between the selected files.

  • blender this is done with "ALT+LeftMouseButton"

  • windows selecting multiple specific files is done with "CTRL+LeftMouseButton"

  • blender with "SHIFT+LeftMouseButton"

i think these should be remapped to match the use of the OS

- Steps for others to reproduce the error (preferably based on attached .blend file) ---
  1. open a new scene
  2. select file> open (ctrl+O) so you get into the file manager
  3. navigate to a folder where you have multiple blend files
  4. try to use ctrl+LMB and shift+LMB as you would in your os file explorer

%%%ok didnt know these could be changed... was just thinking i would bring this "issue" to your attention.
and i would consider this a bug since every user will use/expect the same bindings as in the os.%%%

maybe this can be reconsidered as design change and opened again?

You’ll have to convince some key UI devs first. We only add "Design" task when some Blender devs agree there is a need to (else we would be drown by design tasks!).
