%%%--- Operating System, Graphics card ---

Win64
NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT & NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650

- Blender version with error, and version that worked ---

2.69 - r60995 - official release

- Short description of error ---

Tracking markers on proxy (image sequence) takes as long as tracking on original (16bit PNG sequence).

When loading the proxy with Alt+O from BL_proxy folder, the tracking is as fast as expected.

- Steps for others to reproduce the error (preferably based on attached .blend file) ---

Attached is blend file to create simple 20 frames PNG sequence (just render OpenGl), but any large image sequence works.

Also attached screenshot of proxy settings.

  1. load image sequence in Movie Clip Editor (preferably something like png or tiff)
  2. Build Proxy in 100%
  3. Set Proxy render size to 'Proxy size 100%'

Though playback is fast, tracking is still slow. As comparison, load the proxy in the movie clip editor and track again. This will be faster.%%%

%%%Forgot to mention, a large Memory Cache Limit and prefetching frames don't make a difference. Playback is fine, but tracking is slow.

It's harder to test on movie files, since movie files in general are slightly faster to track.%%%

%%%It is intended for tracker to use original footage. Using proxy for tracking would make track much less accurate and useless.

Thanks for the report, but it's not a bug.%%%

%%%In that case it seems like unexpected behavior. Since you can enable/disable proxy at any time, my assumption is it to work in every mode. I.e. Blender should warn me it's ignoring proxy during track.%%%

%%%It is expected behavior. Tracking is all about accuracy, not speed. And proxies is just a display option. Nothing to warn here about.%%%

%%%I guess my expectations are the wrong ones :)

I understand tracking is all about accuracy, but my thoughts were:
if I place tracks on proxy video and press track, it will track the proxy video. Once I switch to non-proxy, it'll track the original.

Now I know how it works, I can deal with it. I only hope others don't make the same mistake as I did.

Thanks!%%%
