ArchLinux (up to date, currently kernel 3.12)
Radeon HD 4770, open source Radeon driver

Blender 2.6.x and previous

Short description of error
I experience a visual glitch in the menu bar. I suspect either Blender or the graphics driver.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Open Blender
  2. Maximize the window (also other cases might cause the error
  3. The glitch occurs
Klicking somewhere usually makes the glitch disappear.

Looks like some kind of driver related issue.

What window manager/desktop environment are you using? Any desktop effects (e.g. compiz/etc.) enabled?

Nope, it even happens on openbox..
I have found an interesting warning while starting blender via command line though:

libpng warning: iCCP: known incorrect sRGB profile

I googled and found a quite recent ArchLinux thread with the same error message: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=163017
The forums users suggest it's a driver issue. However no idea if this warning is even related to my glitch..?

That libpng error message is unrelated and probably quite harmless.

You can change Window Draw method in User Preferences > System to work around issues in some cases.

Generally we have to advise to install the graphics drivers from AMD instead of the open source ones. For basic desktop graphics the open sources drivers are ok but software like Blender uses many more OpenGL features and they often simply do not work as well and have bugs like this.

Ok, thanks for the info.
I consider reporting this as a driver bug upstream. This should be reported on the mesa bugtracker right?
However maby I'll wait for the next mesa release since it's told to have full openGL 3.2 and openGL 3.3 support.

Btw you have something wrong with the permissions on this bugtracker; I am unable to edit my tasks/bugreports:

You do not have permission to edit this object.
Users with the "Can Edit" capability:

Members of the project "Moderators" can take this action.
The owner of a task can always view and edit it.

The owner is the assignee, not the author. I agree it would be nice to let authors edit tasks though, so I added infrastructure/blender-org#37774 (Authors should be able to edit tasks in Phabricator).

Made an upstream radeon-driver bugreport: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=79858
It also happens on my brand new AMD R7 260x graphics card.
