BGE Texture slowdown #39301

System Information
Windows 7, 2.4ghz celeron cpu, 2 gb ram, Geforce 8400 GS

Blender Version
2.7

Short description of error
Using BGE Texture functions slows down game performance significantly; the performance is affected by the file size of the texture/video file. Is this because of OS/Hardware performance, or because you guys are using OpenGL. I think there'd be a lot better performance if you used DirectX instead. This could be just a issue between systems that have video cards that are developed for OpenGL. In the USA, our video cards are mostly DirectX (Microsoft) based. I am using an older PC which tends to take a performance hit on OpenGL type applications. Perhaps newer PC's handle OpenGL a lot better; I really don't know. It is something to research. The video texture I am using has a max resolution of 512x512. It helps a bit if I recreate the animated files to have half that resolution.

The reason I am reporting is that even though I have a older system, the performance should be not be affected so much by simple game graphics (in my opinion). So either the problem is on my side, or the problem is the usage of openGl, or its implementation in the game engine.

First off, the BGE will not be using Direct3D as this is not support by all the platforms the the BGE supports, and we do not have the resources to maintain two rendering systems for two APIs. Also, this bug report doesn't offer much to help alleviate the problem. In general, yes, video texture can be slow, but you need to at least tell us how you're using the module. Could you at least provide an example file?

I found a place to host my 150mb project file
you can download blockbreaker.zip at
http://www.datafilehost.com/d/fd766395
It is my completed project, it should show you what I'm talking about especially on level 3. I wish there was a better way of playing animations in the bge without having to swap a file from the hard drive. Then again that would mean a larger blend project file.

Could you try to reproduce the problem with a simpler/smaller blend file?

You'll need a simpler/smaller blendfile for this to get some attention. 150mb is way too large.
