Particle Instancer Normal Bug #40542

Closed
opened 2014-06-09 03:50:10 +02:00 by Jimmy Gunawan · 5 comments

System Information
Windows 7, 64 bit, Quadro FX 4000

Blender Version
Broken: 2.7a
Worked: Maybe always buggy like this

Short description of error
Particle Instancing Bug == normal snapping / does not follow face normal of the parent emitter.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Based on a (as simple as possible) attached .blend file with minimum amount of steps

This is going to be hard to explain, but basically, I am creating a setup where I "procedurally generate" mesh in realtime that manage to flip the normal of each face. Supposedly, it will work and Blender particles instancing should not have this issue.

But what I found is, Blender Particles Instancer is snapping the normal at certain point. I don't know why or what causing it.

The thread is at Sverchok Github Thread:
https://github.com/nortikin/sverchok/issues/210

My guess is that the "initial normal" was somewhat interpolated to the instance. I turn off the dynamic, I was just expecting the Particles Instance to always pointing at the parent face.

As you see the issue does not happen with DupliFace.

Attached is the Blend, it needs Sverchok, play with Displace Modifier sverchok_procedural_flipping_011.blend

Is this still an issue? I have tried it with the latest Blender master (ef22e97) and Sverchok version (49b4574) and don't see the problem as described and shown in the sverchok tracker. The bug on sverchok tracker has also been closed, so will close this as well until somebody screams ...
