Environment Texture Node deletes map image from memory #40686

System Information
Win7 64 bit professional, 8GB Ram, Nvidia GTX 550 Ti

Blender Version
Broken: 2.71 2nd RC
Worked: never tried before

Short description of error
If you change the dropdown field from "Single Image" to "Generated" and back in the environment texture node (World material node editor) the previous set image is lost

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. In a new scene got to word tab
  2. Click Use nodes
  3. For color use an environment texture node
  4. Pick any image that you want as environment
  5. Image will show in rendered view
  6. Change "Single image" to "Generated" and back
  7. Check the image in UV/Image Editor and voilá it's gone and can't be reload with Alt+R
(The render view will not automatically update to the missing picture, so you might switch to solid view and rendered view again)

This behaviour might be on purpose but I don't see a point then in the generated image :)

This isn't really related to the Environment Texture node, the same happens in the Image Editor for any image.

The Generated image type is for things like the grid pattern, and it's the default when you create a new image. Switching an existing image to Generated is rarely what you want to do, and when you do any info about the previous image is indeed lost. That's basically by design, if you change an object type and then change it back you don't get the original again either. You need to use Undo for that to happen, I don't think it's a bug.
