Flipping / Mirroring does not work #40915

OS
Windows 7 Pro x64

Blender Version
Broken: 2.70.0 19e627c

Having some difficulty flipping from left to right. Presumably mirror z would make the vertexes on the left and the vertexes on the right swap relative to some centerpoint. On the contrary the result is a rotation along the z, which is incorrect.

Another tact which I found on a forum somewhere and did not work, is scaling along the x to a negative value (-1). This also, frustratingly, retults in a rotation. This last is clearly a bug, since if I lock the scale to an X axis, a rotation requires a scale along the Y axis, which means its either not locking the axis properly, or it really is just performing a rotation.

I haven't found a workaround for this.

I was eventually able to get this to work using Transform on the pullout bar. Upon reflection, I'm not sure that what I was doing for the scaling actually works. I was using all keyboard clips

S, X, -1

Is - perhaps a clip command for something else?

Either way, the Mirror command (Mesh or Object, Mirror, X Global) does not work, at least not for my mesh. It results in a rotate. INTERACTIVE mirror does mirror/flip the correct way though

As always, please attach a .blend file demonstrating the issue…

Default behaviour of Mirror operator was always to mirror along precised axis.
Mirroring is made according to perpendicular plane of axis and it still work as is for me.

@zeauro, we need blend file + steps to redo error case.

Negative scales can be problematic, but from your report we cant tell if this is error in code, or simply a confusing use-case.

I have no error. For me, there is no bug on linux.
I think that Etheras did an misinterpretation of its result.

Mirror for search or Interactive Mirror from search is the same tool. There is no reason that it works differently called one way or the other.

Most of times, when there are problems from different calls; difference is that operator is not called at all.

no problems here. Win 7 64 bit Blender offical 2.71

Edit mode mirror works (global, local);

Object mode mirror works (global , local);

Edit mode s,x,-1 works (global, local);

Not really a bug, more a user error. Closing.
