Particle Texture ignores generated coordinates

Short description of error

See attached .blend - a wide object with blend texture for material and particles. The texture uses generated coordinates which show up fine when rendering but the particles just emit from left to right for 1 BU, then all at once.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Open the .blend, render -> texture looks fine. Hit Alt+A for playback, particles show weird behaviour.
