Smooth/Sharp edge drawing ignored during game runtime

Version: 2.71 (Linux 64-bit)

How to reproduce:
Open the attached file and inspect the tube mesh in GLSL view. Note how the transverse edge loops are set as sharp, using Blender's new ability as of 2.71 to designate certain edges as sharp or smooth.
Press P to start game and notice that the sharp edges of the tube disappear.

Expected Behaviour:
The mesh should appear the same when the game is running as it does before, maintaining the user's edits to how the mesh should be shaded. These new tools for editing mesh shading are less useful if they don't work for games.
