Fluid Baking does not work #43130

System Information
Dell Inspiron 15 5000
Windows 8.1(64bit)
Core i7-4510U(2.0GHz)
Memory:8GB
GC:AMD Radeon HD R7 M265(2GB DDR3)

Blender Version 2.72

Short description of error
Blender's fluid simulator with the cycles render
Bake does not work at all! There is an indication of baking on top, but it does not proceed and no effects on baking after the indication is gone. I tried the same with the other Windows 7 PC with older CPU and no GC, it worked OK. So, it seems to be the problem with Windows 8 or the graphic card.

Can anyone help me ?

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Based on a (as simple as possible) attached .blend file with minimum amount of steps

watersimulation.blend I am new o this site and do not know how to do, and just dragged my file on to this comment . I wonder if it is OK? This file can be properly displayed with baked results on my Windows 7 PC, but not on Windows 8 PC.

Working fine on linux… Did you check the path for baking is valid on your windows? Did you try running Blender as administrator?

Thanks for the advise. I do not really understand why you mean by " path for baking is valid on windows". I would appreciate it if you can explain a bit more. I am running Blender as administrator.

At the bottom of the Fluid panel there is a path selector controlling where baking files are stored. Currently it is set to a directory relative to where .blend file is, it might not be a valid path on your machine.

Also, you should enable the console ('Window' main menu iirc) and see whether there are some error messages during baking.

Thanks again.

Yes, I am making the valid path where baking files are stored. And there were no error messages in the console.... As you say, the same file also works fine on my old Windows 7. So I guess it may be graphic card problem(?) if nobody is facing the same problem on Windows 8.1. Thanks anyway... I shall try to find it out somehow.

There might be another issue… :/ What’s your user directory name (the one referred by the '..' in the baking path)? I would bet you are using some fancy japanese chars - in which case it would be nice if you could check a path completely free from those.

Oh yes, I already found this.... Blender does not accept "fancy Japanese characters". So, I made all the files and paths names in English.

Just for your info, I found my Dell had "AMD Catalyst Control Center" which switches over Intel HD graphic and AMD Radeon HD R7 M265 for any application. I tried both graphic cards, but it does not solve the problem. At least it was not the GC problem.....then, Windows 8.1? I have two Windows 8.1 PCs, and this problem is the same on both.....Mmmm a long way to go!!!

This for sure not a GPU issue, it is not used at all in physics baking.

The issue reported can't be reproduced so far, and has been moved to the BF Blender: Unconfirmed project.
If 2 other people aren't able to redo the bug after 2 weeks, it will be closed.

We appreciate the effort that goes into making bug reports, but to be able to fix bugs we have to be able to redo them.
If there is anything you can provide to help others to reproduce the problem, be sure to include it.
