Blender Version
Broken:2.73.9 (56935e2)

Short description of error
When using VSE, audio appears to lost its volume after a relatively long pause without other operation. (something like you go out for a dinner, and then go back it) Actually everythings was there including the volume value, just there is no audio being heard.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Open VSE, add any video source with audio channel, then pause, leave the project open for some time without any further operation. (I really cannot figure out the minimum pause durtion to repeat this issue) Thanks.

probably the audio device which goes to “sleep” after some inactivity time? Joerg may know better…

Bastien Montagne (mont29) triaged this task as Normal priority.Mar 13 2015, 2:12 PM

I have had a problem with this also, although it happens for less time then say going out for dinner also I have a problem with I will leave blender and when I come back the pitch has been changed but the value for the effect has not

Hmm, seems like the audio device goes to sleep. Which device are you using? OpenAL?

Next time this happens you could try this: open the preferences and set the audio device to None and back to OpenAL and see if that helps. You can also check if having SDL instead of OpenAL has the same problem.

Any news on this? @Leon Cheung (leon_cheung)/@Aaron Carlisle (Blendify) did the issue happen again and did Joerg's tip help?

Julian Eisel (Severin) lowered the priority of this task from Normal to Incomplete.Apr 13 2015, 6:49 PM

Though I want to do more solid tests on this. But, so far so good. :)

im working on a project in the VSE currently if i have problems i will post here but thinking that this could be archived in the time being. dont want the number on sergeys new bug counter to be too high :)

OK, archiving this one for now, we can always reopen if need arise.

was able to reproduce the audio became distorted after messing with some key frames on the gain of the audio. not waiting was required.
Audio was not cached
changing sound device fixed the issue

So not quite the same but very similar
