The crash handler only works with debug builds I'm afraid, for release builds it gives wrong information (which we should consider having those available and deactivate the handler in release builds)

From what you write it seems like your python might be interfering with blender's python, causing an issue. Try uninstalling python and removing it from your system path. Also make sure you have the correct Visual Studio redistributable installed (I think we use the 2013 version to compile blender) @MartijnBerger can give more guidance if all this fails.

Python: 2.7 and 3.4 <-- my best guess this is the source of your problem

please type 'set' in a 'cmd' prompt and look for any and all PYTHON related environment variables.

then unset those with 'set VAR_NAME= ' without anything after the = then run blender.exe from that cmd prompt

Thank you guys for the quick answer.
I searched for system_variables that have to do with python.
There was just the path.
I deleted all python paths and executed blender, but it didn't work.
I also tried it with just one, but it didn't work.
Than I deinstalled both pythons, deleted the systempaths, but it didn't worked either.
Do you have any other idea?
I may also have to add that I have py2exe and pygame installed. Can they cause this error?

Some observations

  • This only happens when starting blender with a .blende file, either via doubleclick on a .blend file, or via commandline
  • Starting blender without a .blend and then loading the .blend doesn't crash
  • Above is true for .blend files from older versions and from 2.74 release
  • Problem seems to be migrated config files - startup.blend or userpref.blend. Deleting both fixes the issue. Leaving any one of those still crashes

system-info.txt

Here are some config files which triggered the crash on every machine we tested

userpref.blend

startup.blend

Hope that helps!

No, last comment is not the same issue, and has actually been fixed already in master. It only happens when "Load UI" is off in user preferences.

That indeed is the issue here! Thanks for the heads up @Psy-Fi and sorry for the confusion

Copy-Pasting Bastiens Masterwork:
Please:

  • Ensure both your OS and drivers are fully up-to-date.
  • For Windows 7, at least service pack 1 is mandatory, please ensure it is installed on your machine.
  • Try to disable any running antivirus.
  • Try the latest build from our buildbot.
  • Try to start Blender in factory settings (--factory-startup commandline option) (this will ensure whether this is a userpref or addon issue or not).
  • Try to place this dll next to your blender.exe (software OGL, will be slow, but will show whether this is a driver issue or not).

@Max-Schorradt, Illegal instruction might be caused by your CPU not supporting SSE2. Is that the case?

A few days ago I found out that my windows update service wasn't working correctly, It didn't do any updates for a long time. Yeah it didn't update to service pack 1. After a lot of issues while fixing my update service. My windows is updating...... a lot!
And now finally blender is working fine with SP1.
Thx guys!
