Edge select broken in shaded display modes with Mirror or Array modifier and "adjust edit cage to modifier result" enabled. #45477

As the title says, edge select is broken/impredictable if display mode is set to any of the shaded modes (solid/textured/material) either in glsl or multitexture shading, if the "adjust edit cage to modifier result" is enabled in the modifier panel.
Basically only object/background edges can be reliably selected, trying to slect any of the edges that end up drawn over the object results in a rather random one being bicked up (usually on the opposite side of the object).
Behaviour is normal in wireframe mode or if the modifier option is not set.
Switching viewport shading between glsl/multitexture doesn't change behaviour.
Switching the VBO option on/off doesn't change behaviour, nor does changing the Selection mode.

Thanks for confirming and sorry about not attaching a .blend. I thought since it could be easily reproduced with modifiers on the default cube that wasn't necessary.
