System Information
Operating system and graphics card

Win 10 Home, 16gb Ram, Intel GPU

Blender Version
Broken: 2.77a abf6f08

Short description of error

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Swapped ctrl and alt modifiers from within the 3dxWare menu, and it seems to work fine with other applications, but neither the new ctrl nor alt keys seem to work when swapped within Blender. Another reason it seems to be a blender issue is that when I hit from Spacemouse Pro alt + tab from within Blender, it successfully filters through the open windows.

I have also assigned other modifier keys and they all seem to work fine: tab, enter, spacebar

After enabling screencast keys, it appears that for every button, Blender calls an internally assigned command, and a command assigned by 3dxWare pasted_file. In the screenshot below, button 1 is pressed on spacemouse pro wireless, which via 3dxWare, i have assigned as esc. In this screenshot: pasted_file, i am hitting the button labeled esc on the spacemouse pro, that i have remapped to tab via 3dxware

Ok, it appears that Blender's handling of space mice seems to be with all internal assignments (according to this website: http://spacemice.org/index.php?title=Blender), which i would be fine with (although not ideal). So if this is so, how can one assign a modifier (ctrl, alt, tab, shift, etc) to a a key from within blender's key configurator?

Alternatively, is there a way to disable certain NDOF buttons from being handled by Blender?

@ideasman42 think you are familiar with our 3DMouse code?

Beyond that, will be hard to handle unless we have a dev with that hardware on hand.

@mont29, on the Blender side - yes. As for 3dxWare driver stuff, I've only heard of problems with one user reporting problems solved by removing it altogether (see #42694).
Of course if you want to use remapping features from their software - thats not an option.

Last time I contacted 3Dconnexion regarding a driver issues they didn't respond.

Since our own code is not dealing with remapping, its likely the issue isn't in Blender.

@Dimitar, closing, best contact 3Dconnexion and make them aware of the issue.
If there is something we can do to fix in Blender, the report can be re-opened.

I am pretty certain that this is an issue on the blender side. I will contact 3d connexion as well, though. In the meantime, is there a way to assign modifier keys via the blender hotkey editor for NDOF buttons?

You can assign key-bindings as with regular keyboard events, for a list of events see all starting with NDOF_ here.
